Beginners Yoga [top]
This class will introduce participants to all aspects of Yoga including
breathing and meditation. Instruction focus will be on the correct
execution of asanas (postures) and building a strong foundation for
future yoga practice. Gentle modifications and individualized attention
to participants will be provided to meet the unique needs of those just
beginning the journey and support the development of those who wish to
expand their personal practice beyond books and videos. Class size is
limited
Daily Yoga Practice [top]
This class will be a Beginner/Intermediate practice focusing on the
fundamentals of Yoga. Each day will have a specific focus, i.e. standing
poses, balance poses, backbends, inversions, twists, etc. Yoga postures
exercise every part of the body, stretching and toning the muscles and
joints, the spine and entire skeletal system. They work not only on the
body’s frame but also the internal organs, glands, and nerves, keeping
all systems in radiant health. By releasing physical and mental tension,
they liberate vast resources of energy. The breathing revitalizes your
body and helps to control the mind, leaving you calm and refreshed,
while the meditation gives you increased clarity, mental power and
concentration. Participants may attend as many classes each week as they
chose. This series is offered to support the development of a regular
practice and individuals are encouraged to attend often to gain maximum
benefits from their yoga practice.
Power Yoga [top]
Alignment-Based Power Yoga: this class presents a modified Astanga
sequence, and gives equal attention to the building of strength and
suppleness, and to the best anatomical structure of each pose for each
individual participant’s body-type. It would be an especially useful
course for people who have been active athletically and who are
interested in working through old injuries or imbalances brought on by
their athletic involvement, or by the periods of physical neglect that
can follow intense athletic involvement
RESTORATIVE YOGA [top]
A gentle practice that passively opens the body to help de-stress as
well as to encourage deep relaxation. Restorative yoga can soothe the
nervous system, aid in digestion, calm the mind, and promote total body
health. The Sunday evening practice is a perfect way to close the
weekend and embrace Monday with a happy heart. Accessible to everyone.
FOR THE LOVE OF YOUR BODY [top]
Improving how you look and feel is a wonderful thing. So why do we
often embark on that journey out of shame, disdain, guilt, and other
negative “motivators”? Come condition, tone, laugh, energize, and
enhance health and well being with Love Your Body Yoga. Drawing from the
yogic tradition of Kundalini, Love Your Body Yoga is designed to help
burn calories and shape muscles, while conditioning the glands,
digestive system, nerves and immune system. Love Your Body Yoga
encourages a healthy metabolism, balanced hormones, comfortable
digestion, a positive attitude, and a good night’s sleep. With time each
class focused on core strengthening we’ll tome the tummy and enervate
“navel power” – in yoga, the center of our strength and will. So come
work your body, for the love of your body.
Prenatal Yoga [top]
Prenatal yoga addresses the physical and emotional changes one
experiences throughout a pregnancy. Yoga can help alleviate some
physical challenges common during pregnancy, such as backache, poor
circulation, restless sleep, and struggles with balance. Yoga has also
been used to keep the body in shape throughout the pregnancy and to tone
and create flexibility in the parts of the body used during the birthing
process. The emphasis on different breathing techniques calms the nerves
and relieves stress, and may be useful during labor. Yogic meditation
builds focus while melting away anxieties. A prenatal yoga class is a
great way to meet other pregnant women, forge a community, and stay
positive and motivated. While this class is appropriate for all levels,
please consult with your medical practitioner about what is appropriate
for your pregnancy.
Vinyasa Flow Yoga [top]
Ride the transformative wave of vinyasa and enjoy a dynamic, engaging
practice designed to stimulate body, mind and spirit by bringing the
fluid body into balance with the vibrating world. Combining graceful,
energetic movement with breathwork and centering strategies, the vinyasa
practice cultivates physical vigor and precision, which brings mental
energy and clarity. Increase strength and flexibility and restore
balance by beginning or ending your day with vinyasa flow.
Toddlers in Motion I (12-24
months) & II (18-36 months) [top]
This 45-minute class is designed for children and their
parents/caregivers. While the class focuses on the gross motor skills,
children also learn movement through imagination. Your child will have
fun dancing to music, learning new songs, animals, shapes, and body
parts through yoga poses, all while being supported by a caregiver.
Enjoy exploring all the new movements and skills your busy one is
acquiring!

get a better night’s sleep, as they are more relaxed and calm.
YOGA FOR WEIGHT LOSS AND HEALTH [top]
This 8-week series is dedicated to providing a safe program for losing weight, trimming and toning the body, and maintaining good health.
Physical, Mental, and Emotional Benefits
Through a graduated series of yoga postures, or asanas, specifically designed for weight loss, and through increased awareness of complimentary life-style options, you can learn to quiet the mind and its persistent demands, and to honor and feel at home in the body and its capabilities. As you come into that quiet self-acceptance, you become better able to work patiently toward change.
Self-Sustaining and Modified for Your Needs
The 8-week series will provide specific and appropriate tools you can use to create your own sustainable program for healthy living. From personal experience with the specific benefits of regular yoga practice, the instructor will guide you in each class meeting through safe sequences of linked yoga postures that simultaneously energize, strengthen, tone, and create the inner heat that burns calories. From one week to the next, sessions will include manageable upgrades to increase the benefits of the practice while keeping it a pleasurable journey at your level of need and comfort.
The Pleasures of the Journey
Most of us take certain aspects of our lives very seriously; and when it comes to “our bodies, our selves,” we often become heavy with our own seriousness. But, as C. K. Chesterton said, “the reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly.” We all have access to that lightness; we have in us the capacity to lighten our own load, and yoga works directly toward that end. Yoga helps us to avoid feelings of self-consciousness, inadequacy, and the feeling of challenge beyond our abilities. Through regular yoga practice, we learn to replace these negative feelings with a deep and abiding self-esteem. We learn to avoid cravings, and the deceptive and transient pleasures they represent, and to replace them with the real pleasure of gaining renewable energy and a sense of well-being in a practice that refreshes, inspires, and fulfills.
Let us begin this journey together.

Guru Yoga Meditation [top]
Guru means "realized teacher" and is the personification and
embodiment of our own inherent perfect qualities. Yoga means "union", so
therefore this practice is an extremely effective method which allows us
to identify with our own inner richness and perfection. It comes to us
through the transmission of the Karma Kagyu Lineage - one of the four
main schools of Tibetan Buddhism - who is represented locally by the
Karma Kagyu Diamond Way Buddhist Group in Naugatuck.
The meditation is guided and no previous experience is necessary. For
more information visit www.diamondway.org
